Swiss German VMUG – Jahresendanlass

Ja es ist schon Herbst. Die Blätter der Bäume färben sich und fallen zu Boden, die Temperaturen sinken, und es wird schon sehr früh dunkel (und eher spät hell).

Wir sind im Herbst angelangt, und die grosse IT-Veranstaltung VMware Explore (ehemals VMworld) ging vor Kurzem in den USA über die Bühne. Im November können interessierte auch in Barcelona teilnehmen.

Über die Speaker

Cormac Hogan ist seit 17 Jahren VMware-Veteran und derzeit Director und Chief Technologist im Büro des CTO in der Cloud Infrastructure Business Group (CIBG). Seine Interessen liegen hauptsächlich im Bereich Storage und Kubernetes. Er bloggt ausführlich unter https://cormachogan.com/ und ist außerdem Autor einer Reihe von Büchern über vSAN (das hyperkonvergierte Angebot von VMware) sowie eines kürzlich erschienenen Buches mit dem Titel „Kubernetes for vSphere Administrators“.

Johan van Amersfoort arbeitet als Technologe bei ITQ, wo er für die technische Strategie in den Bereichen Endbenutzer-Computing und künstliche Intelligenz verantwortlich ist. Er ist Autor der VDI Design Guide Book Series, Host mehrerer Tech-Podcasts (wie EUC Digest, Unexplored Territory und In de Aap Gelogeerd), vExpert und einer der 19 VMware Certified Design Experts (VCDXs) weltweit im Bereich Desktop und Mobilität. Er liebt es, über EUC, GPUs, KI-Sachen und CrossFit zu sprechen, besonders bei Veranstaltungen wie dieser!

It’s autumn, and the major IT event VMware Explore (formerly VMworld) recently took place in the United States. Interested parties can also participate in Barcelona in November.

We took this event as an opportunity to plan a big event on our part! Pretty much between the US and Europe events. And we may welcome one of the luminaries of VMware: Cormac Hogan! But not only he will honor us this year. We may welcome another guest: Johan van Amersfoort!

About the Speakers

Cormac Hogan is a 17-year VMware veteran and is currently a Director and Chief Technologist in the Office of the CTO in the Cloud Infrastructure Business Group (CIBG). His interests are mostly around storage and Kubernetes. He blogs extensively at https://cormachogan.com/, and is also the author of a number of books on vSAN (VMware’s hyperconverged offering) as well as a recent book entitled “Kubernetes for vSphere Administrators”.

Johan van Amersfoort works as a Technologist at ITQ, where he is responsible for the technical strategy within the End-User Computing and Artificial Intelligence areas. He is the author of the VDI Design Guide Book Series, host of multiple tech podcasts (like EUC Digest, Unexplored Territory, and In de Aap Gelogeerd), a vExpert, and one of the 19 VMware Certified Design Experts (VCDXs) globally in the Desktop and Mobility area. He loves to talk about EUC, GPUs, AI stuff, and CrossFit, especially at events like this one!

Swiss German VMUG September Event – Performance Monitoring

The September event is all about Performance Monitoring with real-world problems and solutions. We’re hosted at „The Alehouse“ in Zurich, close to the University of Zurich. Our member Tom Luessi, Truecore GmbH, and Dennis Zimmer from Opvizor will show you interesting things about Performance Monitoring.

About the speakers

Dennis Zimmer is working since 20 years in the server virtualization area. He wrote several books, hundreds of magazine articles and video trainings. Dennis is also a 10-time VMware vExpert and is a thought leader within the Virtualization Community. Dennis is the CEO and board member of Opvizor Inc.

Tom Luessi is is working more than 15 years in IT in training, systems engineering and consulting, and is the CEO of Truecore GmbH. Tom is also working as CTO at the Swiss cloud provider Naveum AG. Since 2011 Tom is working as an IT-trainer and speaker at many specialist congresses, events and educational institutes. He is also a VMware vExpert.

About the topic

Tom gives us an insight into the customer’s requirements for performance and SLA monitoring, from the point of view of the Swiss cloud provider Naveum AG, using the example of the VMware vCloud Director based Infrastructure as a Service platform. Dennis showcases solutions with Opvizor’s hands-on products through live demos and experiences.

Swiss German VMUG June Event – Backup, Restore and Availability

The June event is all about backup and availability of a vSphere infrastructure. We’re invited at the Veeam HQ and the guys there will show us some bits and bytes on how to backup and recovery and keeping your infrastructure available, in all scales.

We’ll meet at 5:30pm for the welcome, then from 6:00pm we’ll start with the event. After the event you’re invited to stay some minutes for some drinks and snacks and some chat.

Topics

We will hear lots about availability in virtualized infrastructure. Probably we’ll get also a sneak peak of upcoming updates and features within the Veeam software.

Location / travel

At this event we’re hosted directly at the Veeam Switzerland HQ in Baar. The office itself is located close to the Baar train station. If you travel with public transportation, you can travel on from Zurich main station with the InterRegio train towards Lucerne, or the S24 towards Rotkreuz. If you’re traveling from Zug you can pick the S1 and hop out at the station Baar Lindenplatz.

There are also limited parking lots available if you travel by car. The parking lots are charged, but not that expensive.
