Swiss German VMUG Meeting March 2018: vSAN Deep Dive & AWS with Duncan Epping & Frank Denneman

Today we proudly announce our first VMUG meeting for this year! And we’re starting with a bombshell! In November last year we were contacted by our friends from the Swiss French VMUG. They told us that they are talking with some VMware specialists to have them on their next VMUG meeting. And thanks to our friends we’re happy to welcome Duncan Epping and Frank Denneman from VMware as our special guests for our first VMUG meeting this year!

About our guests

Duncan Epping is currently working as the Chief Technologist at VMware in the Office of CTO. Holder of VCDX #007. Specialized in Software Defined Storage, hyper-converged infrastructures and business continuity / disaster recovery solutions. Main author and owner of VMware / Virtualization blog Yellow-Bricks.com.

Frank Denneman is currently working as Senior Staff Architect at VMware R&D for VMware Cloud on AWS. Former Chief Technologist at PernixData. Holder of VCDX #29 Co-author vSphere Deep Dive Series. In-depth knowledge in VMware resource management for virtual infrastructures, Author and owner of frankdenneman.nl.

About the event

Duncan Epping and Frank Denneman will present us the latest bits and bytes about VMware vSAN and VMware Cloud on AWS, two of the hottest topics at this time!

After the „official“ part of the event you’re invited to stay a while for some food and drinks, socializing and networking. And i’m pretty sure that Duncan and Frank will be available for some questions!

Information for parking / public transportation

There are about 200 paid parking lots directly at the venue. For restaurant visitors the parking lots a free of charge. Please follow the signs.

The airport hotel is located in the immediate vicinity of the train station Balsberg and also the train station of Glattbrugg can be reached on foot within a few minutes. Trains to the hotel run at regular intervals. Take the train to Zurich main station and then take the train to Zurich airport (IR, IC, S2 or S16). The airport shuttle runs every 15 to 30 minutes between the hotel and the airport and can be found in the arrivals area between Terminal 1 and 2.

Hotel recommendation

For all our guests which have a long voyage to the meeting and back home we can recommend the Novotel Zurich City-West Hotel.

Swiss German VMUG – 3rd Meeting announced

Today we proudly announce our third VMUG meeting! Next week we’ll meet us to listen to two external speakers. We’ve got guests from Runecast and Rubrik which will present us their solutions to add more value to your VMware vSphere infrastructure. We’re hosted this time at Credit Suisse, which serves us also with food and drinks.

Swiss German VMUG – 2nd Meeting announced

Today we proudly announce our second VMUG meeting! Soon, in September, we’ll meet us to discuss, what else could it be, VMworld 2017! VMworld 2017 takes place in August (US) and September (Europe).

Together we’ll discover the interesting and brand new announcements, get over the presentations and have a talk about future developments. Personally i’ve got some topics which will be covered hopefully at VMworld, but i can’t tell you them yet. Let’s see what happens at VMworld, and then we meet all together to have a good talk about what actually happened.

There are several public parkings close to the event venue:

  • Parkhaus Hauptbahnhof Sihlquai (Sihlquai 41, 8005 Zürich / Google Maps), about 15 minutes by foot to the venue
  • Parkhaus Urania (Uraniastrasse 3, 8001 Zürich / Google Maps), about 10 minutes by foot to venue

The Zurich main station (train / public transportation) is also close to the venue, about 10 minutes by foot.

Swiss German VMUG Meeting on 8th of June 2017

Today we proudly announce our first VMUG meeting! Please mark this day in your calendar!

Our VMware User Group existed for some years but wasn’t really active. Now we try to push it again to a new level. We already had an inital meeting to set the goals of our VMUG and discussed what we can do like events, meetings and so on. Actually we have only one leader, but a very competent management committee. Without the help of you guys it would not be possible to organize and manage everything itself. Thank you very much!

But now to the real thing. You probably wanna know more about the when, where and what of our first meeting. Here we go!
